Gawker included actor Russell Crowe onto a list of celebs with connections to Scientology, but the actor firmly denied allegations saying he is not a member of the sect. He also revealed that he was dodging Scientology spins communicated by his fellow actor Tom Cruise, who is the most famous scientologist in the world.
Crowe talked about the period when Cruise was married to his friend, actress Nicole Kidman. He had an opportunity to talk about Scientology with Cruise, upon Crowe’s initiative. He said that given he was a friend of Nicole, he had the opportunity to talk to Cruise often, thereby getting to know him very well. After Crowe watched a video on the religion, he had a discussion about it with Cruise, which made him realize Cruise was “a cool guy”. He said that Cruise was not too pushy in that relatively brief conversation, but he did say in the end: “If it is important to you, you will do something about it.” Crowe said they never discussed the subject again.
HBO made an interesting documentary about Scientology, called “Going Clear”, but Crowe admitted he did not watch it. He also said it has been a while since he last spoke to Cruise. He said very bluntly that he thought once Nicole and Tom got divorced, he was kind of removed from Cruise’s friendship list. It remains to be seen what Cruise will say about this strong statement.
